After 10 years of using PHP, and dabbling with Rails over the last 18 months, learning another framework and another language seemed like a stupid idea.
That’s until I read the most awesome Pragmatic Programmers Book, Seven Languages in Seven Weeks . The concept is to learn a new language, even if you never intend on using it, if simply for the fact to apply new concepts and ways of thinking to your favorite everyday programming language.
Well that sparked me to research the new Buzzword, Django. No, not DJ Ango, the D is silent, think Mango with a J.
I am currently two weeks into my learning of DJango, and what I have seen so far has really caught my attention.
I will be putting up the introductory video/lesson within the next few days, so look out for that, and please let me know why you like or dislike Django.
TJ
Another wild idea by TJ, as these happen on a regular basis, I will be starting a Django Getting Started series of Lessons next week.
Now this will not be your typical Getting Started Series where some expert floods you with every little detail of Django, why it is better than any other framework, etc.
Instead, you will be learning with me, as I learn. That’s right, this is a new approach that I am taking w/ Online Training.
So, tune in next week for Django Getting Started - Learn With Me.
After trying out both frameworks extensively over the last few years, I now have a favorite.
CodeIgniter, hands down. The ease in which I can switch from Rails to Django to CodeIgniter makes my life so much easier as a web developer.
So for now I’m running at about a 60/35/5 split. CodeIgniter/Rails/Django.
I’m still new to Django, but I will be posting my musings as I continue to learn it over the next 2 weeks.
I’m even thinking about turning what I learn into tutorials to share with the world.
